Shopping for a Maintenance Free Replacement Harley Davidson Battery

December 4, 2010 by AutoStaff

Being able to get out and ride your Harley whenever you get the chance is one of the things that owning a Harley is all about. If you only get to ride infrequently, you’ll want to make sure that when your chance comes, your Harley is good to go. Having a battery that you can rely on to crank when you need it is crucial. When the time comes to shop for a replacement Harley Davidson battery, keeping a few of the following topics in mind will help to save you time and aggravation.

Going Maintenance Free

One of the latest features to become available in replacement Harley Davidson batteries is maintenance free batteries. As the name indicates, you don’t have to do anything to refresh them and keep them going strong, such as replace the acid in the battery. The only small catch with these batteries is that you have to use them, at least once every three months, in order for them to stay charged. If you don’t, you’ll have to recharge them properly before being able to hit the road. This should only be a small catch because hitting the road only once in three months is practically a sacrilege! However, if you do have the misfortune to have to sit still for 3 months or more, getting a Harley Davidson battery tender to properly keep it charged won’t break the bank.

The maintenance free battery also means that you’re not going to have to worry about acid spills and battery terminal corrosion. Dealing with acid fumes will also become a distant memory when you switch over. Better for you and better for your Harley.

How to Get the Right Replacement

You’re going to want to make sure that you get the right replacement battery for your Harley. The best thing to do is to look up what type of battery you need in your owner’s manual or check online for the type and style of battery you need. It’s also a good idea to take the battery measurements so that you can compare the size of a replacement you’re considering with the battery you already have in place.

Since there are a lot of different brands of replacement batteries, you’ll want to do a couple of things to ensure that you get the right replacement Harley Davidson battery for your bike. Check out what kind of warranty comes with the battery line. Next, find some reviews from other people who have used that line of battery. You don’t want to get a battery that won’t keep you going.

Online or In-Person

Another critical part of the puzzle for you to figure out is whether you prefer to be able to talk with someone face to face to get the information you need to make your decision on a new battery, or if you’re comfortable searching around for info online.

The benefits of shopping in-person are that you can get all your questions answered and then be able to take your battery with you when you finish your transaction, much like when you compare car batteries. There’s no waiting for it to be shipped to you.  The benefits of shopping online are having a wider selection to choose from, and typically finding a great price without having to make a trip to the shop.

When you’re ready to make the switch to a maintenance free Harley Davidson battery, keeping these few things in mind will get you going quickly so you can spend your time out on the open road. Get on your Harley and ride.

Finding the Best Deals on Mercedes Benz Parts

December 4, 2010 by AutoStaff

If you’ve got a Mercedes Benz that you’re thinking about doing some restoration on, or that just is in need of some repairs, you’re going to be shopping for Mercedes Benz parts soon. There are some things that you can do to find the best deals. Review the following topics for some ideas on how you can find the best deals.

Check Your Warranty

Doing a repair yourself can be a great way to save some money on auto repairs. And there is also a great deal of satisfaction in completing the project yourself. However, there are several issues to check into when you’re getting ready to buy Mercedes Benz parts and accessories. The first is if your car or SUV is still under factory warranty, you’ll need to check what kind of parts you need to install in order to keep from voiding the warranty. If you’re thinking of doing the work yourself, you may also want to make sure that the warranty doesn’t require having a certified mechanic do the repair. Once you’ve confirmed what you need to do to satisfy your warranty requirements, it will be easy to decide whether to do it yourself or have it done for you.

The next warranty issue that you’ll want to investigate is the warranty of the parts you’re purchasing. Depending on the part and whether it is new or used, the warranty could be anywhere from 90 days to 1 year. You’ll want to keep this issue on your list as you make your comparison on where to buy from.

Compare Prices

It often comes in handy when you’re thinking about doing a repair yourself to be able to take in your Mercedes Benz parts to a local parts and service retailer. Being able to talk face to face with a knowledgeable person can be very valuable. This is especially true if the part being replaced has worn in a way that is difficult to describe either on the phone or via email. You’ll want to be sure to factor in the in-person value when you’re comparing the costs of local vs. online retailers.

Buying Wholesale

It’s not too hard to find places that advertise Mercedes Benz parts online at wholesale prices. Some of the advantages to buying from this kind of retailer is that they will very often have a very large inventory of parts and accessories. And they will frequently have parts for model years going back 30 or more years. This may often be the easiest way to find difficult parts for older models. Another plus is that you will be able to get parts at wholesale prices, helping you to save a bundle on your repair.

Rebuilt vs. New

Depending on the system that you are repairing, you may want to consider whether it makes sense to look at rebuilt parts vs. the cost of buying new parts. Usually since these parts have been rebuilt, they will come with a warranty of some kind, even though they are used Mercedes Benz parts. Here are some examples of parts that might make sense to buy rebuilt:

  • Master break cylinder
  • Engine
  • Transmission
  • Fuel injection systems
  • Carburetors

You’ll want to be sure to compare the prices of the rebuilt parts to new parts from the wholesalers online. It may often be a tossup between them.

Take the time to make yourself a pros and cons list to weigh all the factors you’re considering, and you’ll soon have your answer on where to get the best deals on Mercedes Benz parts.

A Shopper’s guide to Isuzu Truck Parts

December 4, 2010 by AutoStaff

Finding the right Isuzu truck parts for your truck repair might seem like a daunting task. Breaking it down into smaller steps is a great way to manage the process. Some things to consider as you work on getting your Isuzu back on the road are figuring out what part you need, whether to do the repair yourself, and where to get new or used parts.

Figuring out What Part You Need

With onboard computers in cars today, it’s usually fairly easy to figure out what the problem component is that needs to be replaced. Outside of a garage, however, it’s difficult to be able to get the information from the car’s computer. You’re likely going to need to take the car to a reputable mechanic to have them get the diagnostic information from the computer in order to pinpoint just what needs to be replaced. While this usually costs a diagnostic fee, it will save you a great deal of time and trouble in figuring out exactly what Isuzu truck parts you need for your repair.

DIY or Have a Mechanic do the Installation

Once you’ve figured out what parts you need, you’ll want to answer the question of who is going to get them installed for you. Are you a good mechanic, or are you going to need some help to complete the project? If you’re get into a repair and then realize that you need some help, here are some questions to ask of a potential shop or mechanic:

  • Can you bring in the parts needed for the repair or will they only use parts they purchase themselves? It’s very common for a garage to only use parts that they buy at the time of repair. Be sure to check to see if they will let you bring in your own parts.
  • Do you work on only Isuzus, or do you also repair other makes of cars?
  • Do you have experience with this particular repair that is needed?
  • Do you have all the tools needed to do the repair? If you’re not going to a full service garage mechanic, this is an important issue to discuss, especially who is responsible for acquiring the needed tools.

Buying New vs. Used

An important consideration when you’re looking at buying parts is whether to buy new or used. As with any other type of vehicle, it sometimes will make sense to get Isuzu truck parts used rather than new. For example, buying a rebuilt engine or transmission used is a great way to get a good solution at a reasonable price. However, it most likely won’t be cost effective to get a new master brake cylinder or heater core used. Taking the time to determine what makes the most sense for your particular repair will save you money in the long run.

Buying Local vs. Online

If you’re taking on a DIY project to replace your isuzu trucks parts and you have a parts dealer near you, it can be a real advantage to be able to go in and talk with someone in the event that you get stuck or encounter an issue that is beyond the ordinary.

The advantage to buying online is that you can often find a wider selection and availability when you need it. Plus, shopping with an online dealer will typically yield a price advantage.

Getting Back on the Road

Once you’ve gotten the answers to these larger categories figured out, getting your Isuzu truck back on the road will just be a matter of working your plan to completion.

Home And Car Window Glass Replacement

November 20, 2010 by AutoStaff

When one of the windows in your car or at home breaks, you are left with no choice but to find a window glass replacement immediately for security.  Having a broken window allow intruders to go in and out of your car or home, which you certainly would not want to happen.  This is why replacing the window glass is something you need to attend to right away.  If you need to replace your window, you have two options, either to do it yourself, or to hire professionals to do the job for you.  If you want to save money by doing the repairs on your own discover all about these tips to replacing window glass.

For a home window glass replacement, first you need to remove any glass that you want to replace.  Next, you will have to take measurements so that the glass will fit the frame.  If you like, you can also choose to replace the windowpane to something more pleasing if it has been there for quite a long time.  After purchasing the frame, you can start sanding the rough areas before attaching it to the windowpane.  When ready, install the glass to the windowpane and keep it together with screws.  Make sure that there are not any spaces between the frame and the window.

For a car window glass replacement, you will need to search for the right window replacement depending on the make and model of your car.  This is a bit easier than home window replacements because these windows are normally smaller in size.  However, clearly you will see that a lot of steps still need to be made.  As soon as you have the right glass, remove the door panel and the glass that you are going to replace.  Install the new window on the door panel and tighten screws.  Make sure that everything is installed properly and correctly aligned so that you will not have difficulty when opening and closing the window.

Window glass replacement cost varies depending on the type of glass purchased.  The thickness of the glass, the type of glass, and the quality are all factors to do with the cost.  On top of the cost of the glass, other things are also considered such as the number of windows that will be replaced, the cost of materials used for replacing, the window pane if being replaced, and possibly even services if you are hiring someone to do the job for you.

You can clearly do your own auto window glass replacement for your car or window glass for your home; however, you need to be prepared to do some manual labor.  If you are not much of a handyman, you can easily get help from professional glass installers so that you do not have to worry about installing anything.  Check online for convenience, or visit a store near you.  These companies will make repairing window glass a great convenience and there is no doubt that they will get the job done a lot faster in comparison to if you do things on your own. What’s best about these auto glass  replacement shops, is they will meet you and often replace your windshield in the parking lot where you work. Maybe you’ve seen them out running around your office garage or parking lot, talking on their hands free walkie talkie headset, and swapping out auto glass like you and I replace a light bulb.

Stay Hands-Free with a Walkie Talkie Headset

November 20, 2010 by AutoStaff

Even in this modern era, walkie talkies are still a common form of communication. Most people utilize a walkie talkie headset to make the experience more convenient. This allows hands free communication with all the functionality. Often times these devices can be quite large so it is easier to have a headset and clip the radio on a belt or pair of pants. Police forces, construction companies, and people riding motorcycles are an example of those that use walkie talkies on a regular basis.

Also known as two way radios, the first walkie talkie headsets was invented in 1940 during world war two. The Motorola SCR-563 was the first radio ever used for long distance communication. Since then, there have been many advancements in the technology but the basic need remains the same. The technology is so common now that there are kids toys that reach up to two miles. An example of a more advanced hands free walkie talkie headset is the Midland AVPH4 Ear Clip. Small and lightweight, they have a wrap around design with an ear bud similar to basic headphones.  This headset plugs into most models of Midland two way radios that typically reach up to 36 miles.

[phpzon keywords=”headset walkie talkie” num=”5″ country=”US” searchindex=”Electronics” trackingid=”autophpzon-20″ sort=”none” templatename=”default” paging=”true”]

Usage of the two way radio started to decline after the cellular phone became popular and accessible to the general public. There are, however, situations where the walkie talkie still reigns supreme. Any environment where a cell phone would not be able to get proper service would be great for a two way radio. Many hikers and campers use these to communicate with other people in their group. Often times these radios can also be equipped with a GPS device to help rescue groups locate a missing person.

A hands free walkie talkie headset is most common with police forces. These people need to stay on the move and cannot be raising and lowering a radio all day. Most often a small ear bud is used and the radio is clipped to their belt. A few options with these headsets are automatic activation of the speaker or a push to talk ear bud. People that are riding double on a motorcycle also use two-way radios to communicate. They usually have a headset inside their helmet and the radio is activated automatically when they begin to speak. This makes it safe to talk and drive without having to push any buttons constantly. Construction companies also utilize this hands free technology. With a headset, employees can communicate while they continue working. This increases productivity and the ease of communication allows the job to get done quicker.

A walkie talkie headset is a good option for those that need to communicate over long distances but also need the use of their hands. Cell phones have a similar technology with Bluetooth devices. Although not as common as in previous years, the two way radio will continue to be a popular form of communication. A hands free walkie talkie headset also makes a great holiday gift.

Recycle By Buying Used Tires

November 20, 2010 by AutoStaff

You do not have to own a car to realize the importance of tires.  However, owning a vehicle will absolutely make you aware of the cost factor involved. Car tires are a necessary, never ending expense times four.  Additionally, it is quite necessary to have a spare tire as well and if you also need a different set of tires to safely navigate the winter driving months, your yearly tire budget just doubled.  The performance or specialty tires starts at a higher price and go up from there.  For the truck or SUV owner, the bigger the tire needed as with everything in life, the bigger the price to start with.

The good news for your pocket book and the environment is the availability of used tires for sale.  Used tires are a very effective way to recycle, reuse and save you money.   For the quite obvious reasons some people have a misconception of the word or phrase “used tires”.   After all, a used tire is a used tire, however just because it is used does not mean it can be sold as a used tire.  Some tire conditions are not worth even trying to sell or safe enough to sell.  Tires that have been worn past the typical indicator points, have belts showing or cracked rubber are not tires you should ever see in the for sale pile.  Actually, purchasing used tires requires a lot of thought, some basic knowledge of tires, patience, and some idea as to where you should begin your search.

To save you some time and money, knowing the following basic points should be quite helpful.  When buying used tires, you should always consider the following:
•    Four matching tires is the best option, the wear on tires should match as well.
•    If four are not possible, two that match is acceptable, match right to left (not front to back).
•    Four of the same size is recommended.
•    If not, some cars can handle one size different, either wider or thinner (check car’s guidelines).
•    Always inspect potential tire prior to putting on your car, some damages cannot be seen when mounted.
•    Stay away from tires with an uneven level of wear.
•    50% of the original tread is a guideline, much less than that and you will need tires again soon.
•    Age of the tire is important, a six-year life span is standard, past ten years is probably wasting your money.

Through the purchase of used tires, you can save a great deal of money and be comfortable driving with them if you really paid attention to what you are purchasing.  Used tires are pretty commonplace today, you can find them anywhere, and wholesale used tires are a great buy usually.  The tires come from various situations, a trade-in, another brand was preferred, the driver just wanted something different, the car was involved in an accident, and the list continues.  Just remember to visually inspect the tires and be aware of the important factors.  You can rest easy knowing you are saving money, driving a safe car, and doing your part to recycle.

A Breakdown Assistance Guide

October 30, 2010 by AutoStaff

There is nothing worse than driving down the highway in an automobile or motorcycle, en route to a special destination, and being stopped short. For some reason, the vehicle has stopped working and the travelers are now stuck on the side of the road, or even worse, in the middle of it. It is good to know that breakdown assistance is only a call away (and sometimes a call is not even required).

A vehicle may stop working for many reasons and unless the travelers are auto mechanics, professional assistance is usually required to get back on the road. The most common reason for the car or bike to stop running is a dead battery. Other typical causes are flat tires, running out of gas, low oil level, alternator problems, or issues with the starter or spark plugs.

Some of these causes are entirely preventable by keeping enough gas in the vehicle and having the car or bike serviced at recommended intervals. If a car or bike runs out of oil, the damage can be irreversible, so prevention is a necessity. The vehicle may emit warnings long before it totally stops running, such as dimming headlights and electrical system interference during idling. Immediately addressing these situations prevents more serious problems in the future.

Many people are skilled enough to fix a flat tire themselves or at the very least, fill the tire with a quick-fix foam product. This will usually do the trick until the driver can get to a service station to have the tire plugged or replaced. It is important to have an inflated spare tire in the vehicle at all times. Motorcycle owners are not lucky enough to have a storage spot for this tire so they will need to call in the troops if they don’t have a foam flat fix product on hand.

As far as help goes, it comes in the form of a truck that is either called or just happens to be driving along the highway. Many major roadways like interstates have an emergency vehicle system that drivers in need can access through call boxes located on the side of the road. These trucks are often driving back from another call so they may pass by and offer help without being contacted.

AAA and private companies also offer help to stranded motorists throughout the U.S. Having an AAA membership is something that every driver should consider because it includes basic services like towing and some policies even include a supply of gas. Help may also be obtained through the auto insurance carrier if the policy includes this provision.

Car and vehicle breakdown assistance is often needed when the automobile or motorcycle runs of gas or oil, gets a flat tire, or experiences problems with the battery, starter, or alternator. This help is provided by interstate highway emergency vehicles and organizations like AAA as well as private companies. Some drivers have this coverage within their auto insurance policies, hoping they will never need it but thankful if they do.

Get Lower Premiums On Yamaha Motorcycle Insurance

October 25, 2010 by AutoStaff

Yamaha motorcycles, like motor cars, have to be insured before they can be used on national roads. Duh… Sorry, didn’t mean to offend anyone, but if you didn’t know you needed motorcycle insurance and are thinking about purchasing a motorcycle as transportation on roads and highways… then we’re telling you now you need it.

A lot of motorcycle owners might not see the necessity for insurance when everything is going according to plan. However, being in a ruinous accident or having your car stolen can really open your eyes to the necessity for insurance, even if it is just for a motorcycle. Yamaha motorcycle insurance follows round about the same principles of insurance as motor vehicle insurance and only a few differences exist, especially when it comes to the overall cost of being insured. Because insurance of this nature is generally cheap people might think it cannot go any lower. Well, ladies and gentlemen, today I will show you the different ways of reducing premiums on your motorcycle.

The very first thing you must begin to understand is the principle of risk. Risk is the uncertain possibility of an accident, theft or harm occurring in relation to a motor car. Therefore if the risk factors surrounding your way of life are high, so will the insurance premiums. The best way to lower insurance costs is by manipulating the principle of risk in your favor. Manipulation of the potentially negative impact of risk is done quite easily by lowering the level of risk in your lifestyle and this can be done in a variety of ways.

Try as much as possible not to break any road traffic rules such as reckless driving and drunken driving. On top of this you ought to reduce the number of incidents in which accidents occur and you are the chief villain. This is very helpful when your insurer makes a background check on your driving record during the processing of your application. When the insurer notices the gradual improvement of your driving skills he/she will feel the need to lower tariffs for your Yamaha motorcycle insurance. On top of this you could also enlist for a course or programmed on defensive driving. Being a part of courses and local initiatives aimed at reducing accidents on national roads is one way of proving to your insurer that your driving has improved.

The risk of motorcycle theft is of particular importance when you consider the devices or measures that you have put in place in order to prevent the theft of your motorcycle. The best way to do this is by placing trackers on the motorcycle since you cannot really have an alarm on motorcycles. Apart from this you can also prove to the insurance company that you house your vehicle in a well-secured garage, preferably one with alarms and CCTV cameras. Insurance can also be lowered in this manner by just moving to a neighborhood that is not prone to crime since the level of criminality in your place of residence has a strong impact on insurance.

Another way of reducing insurance cost is insuring with the same company that insures your home, your health or your life. A lot of insurance companies reward customers who show this kind of loyalty by giving them amazing discounts on all of their policies. However, be sure to inform your insurer about your other insurance policies otherwise he/she might not pick it out from the system. In addition, make sure you ask for a discount if it is not offered upon sight.
